I think it’s time that my organization start using IT outsourcing as an option. As a programmer, I am totally overwhelmed with my current amount of responsibilities. I think it’s ridiculous that I’m expected to do all of this and maintain all of my previous productivity when I’m constantly being presented with new jobs and duties and projects that need to be done, and according to my manager, they all need to be done urgently. Isn’t that ridiculous? Am I the only one who thinks that this is ridiculous, that this is totally borderline psychotic for and employer to expect you to be able to constantly raise your level of productivity exponentially without sacrificing any quality whatsoever, and not taking any initiative to hire new programmers or Outsource? Maybe I’m overreacting, but I am getting very frustrated with this type of pattern in my workplace. I think that as workers, we should have the right to say what is too much, and at least have a discussion about it. If what I defined as too much, it’s actually not too much, that’s fine but then I’m not the right person for the job. All I know is that I’ve done this type of work for a long time, and our previous workload is very manageable, and it’s fine for a spike, but when the ultra busy Spike levels become the new Normal, without any warning or discussion, I think that warrants a complaint and I think that it is a situation that demands some discourse between the management and the employees. I know some great Outsourcing vendors who would be able to help us out at a manageable cost, and probably we would get more done and retain just as much profit with a higher level of productivity. When I think of solutions like this, I often think of moving into management myself. I wonder if my managers are just stupid or if they just don’t care.
